Divine was inspired to become a sprinter after studying footage of Usain Bolt, the Jamaican Olympic legend who set world records during his illustrious career. Now Divine is on his own path to greatness, and his family are right behind him.
He’s very determined and very focused, Nkiruku said. He knows what he wants and goes for it. He’s very competitive, but in a good way. He’s always looking at ways to improve himself. He’s very dedicated to what he does.
Divine’s rise to the top of British sprinting has been rapid, but Nkiruku is keen to keep his feet on the ground and ensure he continues to enjoy his running.
He’s still young, so we’re just taking it one step at a time, she said. We’re not going to rush him. We want him to enjoy what he’s doing and have fun with it. We don’t want him to be too serious at such a young age.
But with his sights firmly set on breaking records and making a name for himself in the world of sprinting, ‘Lightning’ Divine is a name we are likely to hear a lot more of in the years to come.
