“California Sober” fue escrita durante el mismo período que “Sour”, comparte la banda. “Comenzamos a trabajar en Sour y no íbamos a ninguna parte. Tuvimos una especie de colapso; estábamos llorando y hablando de cosas. Estábamos bromeando, tocando la guitarra, y Mikaila empezó a cantar sobre cuando llegas y tus amigos están drogados; simplemente sentados allí, sin ganas de hacer mucho. Todo está bien y es divertido, pero no puedes disfrutar de la compañía de otras personas y pensar ‘no soy lo suficientemente bueno para pasar el rato'”.

“Pusimos todo en este disco, y estoy muy agradecido de que finalmente salga”, comparte Julian Comeau. “Loveless siempre ha sido un proyecto muy personal, pero esta vez pudimos trabajar con algunos colaboradores increíbles para sacar lo mejor de nosotros tanto instrumental como líricamente. Reunimos al equipo soñado y ha sido una alegría absoluta escuchar Loveless de una manera que nunca se había escuchado antes, y no puedo esperar para compartirlo con todos”.
Sobre el nuevo sencillo, agrega: “‘Heart-Shaped Soul’ fue la primera pista que hicimos con nuestros amigos Zach Jones, KJ Strock y KANNER. Se unió tan naturalmente, que sabíamos que había un rayo en una botella de inmediato. Estamos inmensamente orgullosos de este, tiene todos mis aspectos favoritos de una canción de Loveless atados en un bonito lazo. Nunca realmente canté así en una canción original, y todavía me emociono cada vez que la escucho y pienso en la magia que sentimos en el estudio”.
