German business owner Hans Beckhoff of Beckhoff Automation has expressed concern over the current economic crisis facing the country’s manufacturers. In the 44 years since the company was established, Beckhoff has not seen a crisis as severe as the current one. The company, part of Germany’s Mittelstand, specializes in automated control systems for various industries. Despite facing challenges such as energy price hikes, inflation, and competition from China, Beckhoff Automation remains resilient. However, the company anticipates a decline in performance compared to previous years. Other German manufacturers, like Ziehl-Abegg, also face difficulties due to political uncertainties and competition from China. The automotive industry, in particular, is struggling with reduced demand from China and increased competition from Chinese car exports. This has led to profit declines and potential job losses in companies like Volkswagen. Despite these challenges, there is optimism for the future of the German manufacturing sector, with a focus on innovation and productivity. The incoming German government will play a crucial role in addressing these issues and driving transformation in the industry.
