Filer’s rise to prominence has been a rapid one. Just four years ago, she was playing club cricket for Buckingham Town in the Home Counties Women’s Premier League, but after impressing for the Lightning in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, she earned a call-up to the England Academy before making her full international debut in September 2022.
Now, as England’s spearhead in the absence of the injured Katherine Brunt, Filer’s ability to generate pace and swing has made her a key component of Lisa Keightley’s side. And despite the pressure of leading the attack in an Ashes series, she remains unfazed.
I think I’ve got a good head space, Filer said. Obviously, I’ve got a lot to learn. I’ve been playing cricket for a couple of years, so I’ve got a lot to learn but I’m just trying to take it all in my stride and just go with the flow really.
With the likes of senior players like Heather Knight, Nat Sciver, and Sophie Ecclestone alongside her, Filer is confident that England can push Australia all the way in the upcoming series.
We’ve got a really good team going out there, Filer added. We’re just going to go out there, enjoy it and play some good cricket.
And if Filer can continue her rapid rise and lead England to a series win, she may just become the new face of English women’s cricket, surpassing even the expectations set for her by the media frenzy surrounding Issy Wong.
But now, with the opportunity to take on Australia once again, Filer is ready to show just how much she has developed and grown as a player. The experience gained over the past few years, both on and off the field, has only made her more determined to succeed at the highest level.
With a point to prove and a hunger to perform, Filer is eager to make her mark in the upcoming series. And as she takes to the field once again, you can be sure that she will give it her all, leaving everything out there and making every delivery count.
So, watch out Australia – Lauren Filer is back, and she’s ready to make a statement.
