What are the responsibilities of a Premier League club in terms of financial management?
I think the key responsibilities are to operate within the rules. We have a very clear set of rules that are there to provide a level playing field within the competition and to provide a sustainable financial future for the clubs that are within it. So, I think the key responsibilities are to understand the rules, to comply with them and to plan accordingly so that clubs are sustainable in the long term.
What are your thoughts on the controversial plans for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup?
Well, I think it’s important to remember that this is a FIFA competition and it’s their prerogative to organize their competitions as they see fit. From the Premier League’s perspective, we’re obviously monitoring the situation closely and we’ll engage with FIFA as necessary to ensure that the interests of our clubs and our competition are protected. But ultimately, it’s up to FIFA to decide how they want to structure their competitions.
Overall, I think it’s been a productive conversation and I’m confident that we can reach a mutually beneficial solution that works for all parties involved.
They make a judgment on it and if a breach has taken place then it’s down to the disciplinary process to decide the sanction. That’s the way it works and we have to stick to that and be consistent in our approach.
So, I understand why people get frustrated, but we have to follow the process. And if there is going to be change, it will be done through a process that is fair and transparent, and that is what we are working towards.
