“So I think it’s very important for them to see how they work, how they talk, how they handle pressure, and I think it’s very important for them to see that and to adapt that kind of mentality,” he added.
For Villanueva, Ionescu’s visit is a step in the right direction for Philippine women’s basketball.
“It’s really inspiring for all the young girls playing basketball, for all the current players, for all the coaches to see that there’s another level that we can push towards and aspire to be. And having that role model come here and share her experiences with everybody is just invaluable,” said Villanueva.
With Ionescu setting the example, the future looks bright for women’s basketball in the Philippines.
