Avanzando el Futuro de la Odontología Biológica

Our annual Dental Mercury Awareness Week is approaching, and I think it’s a great time to sit down with Dr. Carlo Litano. With nearly 20 years of experience in dentistry, Litano’s journey began with a desire to help his mother with her dental health issues.

Graduating from school in Fort Lauderdale, Litano initially felt unprepared to assist his mother. However, after about 10 years of gaining experience and knowledge, he felt confident enough to provide her with the care she needed. Training with a holistic dentist early in his career, Litano practiced dentistry in Portland, Oregon before returning to Florida to establish his holistic dental practice, Natural Smiles, in the Tampa Bay area.

Drawing from multiple mentors, Litano emphasizes the importance of an integrated approach to dentistry, particularly highlighting the influence of Dr. Klinghardt and Dr. Volz. He explains that biological dentists like himself take a holistic approach, understanding the connection between a patient’s dental health and their overall well-being.

In his practice, Litano looks beyond just the teeth, considering the impact of dental health on a patient’s entire body. By addressing underlying health issues and infections, he aims to help patients achieve better overall health and well-being.

Having personally experienced Litano’s expertise when he treated a severe dental infection for me, I can attest to the advanced technology and comprehensive care provided at his clinic. Patients from around the country and the world seek out his services for advanced dental care and treatment.

Using cutting-edge technology like CBCT 3D scans, Litano is able to provide precise diagnoses and treatment plans for his patients. This technology allows him to identify and address complex dental issues that may be overlooked with traditional imaging methods.

Studies support the effectiveness of CBCT in dentistry, highlighting its superior diagnostic capabilities compared to other imaging modalities. Additionally, Litano’s clinic utilizes digital scanning technology for accurate 3D modeling of patients’ mouths, reducing the need for traditional dental molds.

Dr. Carlo Litano’s dedication to holistic dentistry and advanced technology sets him apart in the field, providing patients with comprehensive care and innovative treatment options for optimal dental health. This not only provides more precise measurements down to the last micron (or 0.001 millimeter), but also speeds up the production process.

“It has significantly reduced the time needed for dental procedures. The lab is digital, allowing for the creation of a copy of the mold. This eliminates the need for multiple copies and streamlines the process. We can now take impressions directly in the chair, send them to our 3D printers, and have the final product within an hour, a process that used to take two weeks.”

Most Dentists Are Not Trained to Remove Mercury Fillings Safely

Litano and I also discuss the dangers of having mercury fillings removed by a nonbiological dentist, a mistake I made in the ‘90s. I had over 20 mercury fillings removed by a conventional dentist, and the procedure was done incorrectly.

As a result, I suffered lifelong side effects, including compromised kidney function, as the fillings were removed without proper precautions such as vacuums or rubber dams.

Mercury fillings are 51% mercury and can have severe effects on the body due to their conductive nature. Despite the decreasing use of mercury fillings in adults, they are still used in children, leading to potential health issues. Litano explains how the interaction of mercury fillings with other metals in the mouth can create a toxic environment and contribute to various health conditions.

In his practice, Litano uses oracle ceramic fillings made of silicon dioxide, derived from sand or glass, as a safer alternative to mercury fillings and plastic composite resins. These ceramic fillings last longer and do not emit harmful chemicals like BPA.

Litano explains the potential health risks associated with dental resin composites, highlighting their cytotoxic properties and estrogenic effects. Oracle ceramic fillings are a safer and more durable option compared to composite resins.

New Dental Techniques Give Patients a Pain- and Stress-Free Experience

Litano’s practice utilizes Erbium and Nd:YAG lasers instead of drills for dental procedures, offering a less invasive and quieter experience for patients. The thermal properties of the Erbium laser allow for drilling without creating heat buildup or damaging nerves.

These lasers require minimal anesthesia and are suitable for various dental procedures, providing a more comfortable experience for patients. Additionally, Litano incorporates traditional techniques such as thermography to identify areas of chronic infection and inflammation in the mouth.

By using thermography to map out cavitations and identify active areas of inflammation, Litano can provide targeted treatment and reduce the need for invasive surgeries. This holistic approach to oral health focuses on maintaining overall well-being and preventing long-term health issues.

More Information

In addition to these advancements in dental technology, Litano and I discussed holistic strategies for maintaining oral health, including the importance of diet, pH levels, and vitamin D. I highly recommend watching the full interview for valuable insights on the benefits of consulting with a biological dentist.

If you are in the Tampa Bay area and seeking a biological dentist, I recommend visiting Litano’s clinic, Natural Smiles, located in downtown St. Petersburg near Mirror Lake.
