Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis criticized Amendment 4, a high-stakes abortion measure in Florida, calling it a “bait and switch.” He urged voters to vote “No” on the amendment at a press conference in Winter Garden.
DeSantis highlighted the vague language of the amendment and expressed concerns about its impact on parental rights and healthcare providers.
He also pointed out that the amendment does not define viability or healthcare provider, potentially allowing nonmedical personnel to perform abortions.
Concerns were raised about the amendment’s language regarding minors getting abortions, with DeSantis criticizing the lack of parental consent requirements. He emphasized the importance of parental rights in medical decision-making for minors.
Florida is one of nine states with an abortion-related measure on the ballot, with a significant amount of money being spent on ads for and against the amendment.
Former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris have differing views on abortion, with Trump leaving the decision to the states and Harris advocating for legislation to restore national abortion rights.
