Concerns are growing among Democrats that Vice President Harris is struggling to connect with male voters in the final weeks of the presidential campaign.
Recent polls indicate that while Harris is performing well with women compared to former President Trump, she is not making significant progress with male voters. In some battleground state polls, she is even trailing Trump by more than a dozen points.
For example, a New York Times/Siena College survey this week showed Trump leading nationally among likely male voters with 51 percent to Harris’s 40 percent. Democratic strategists are emphasizing the need for Harris to improve her support among Black and Latino men to have a chance at defeating Trump, who has gained more support from both groups.
Another poll by USA Today/Suffolk University in Arizona revealed that Trump has the support of 51 percent of Latino men aged 18-34, while only 39 percent back Harris. The gap widens among Latino men aged 35-49, with 57 percent supporting Trump and 37 percent supporting Harris.
This issue is not new, as Harris has been facing challenges with male voters since President Biden endorsed her after dropping out of the race.
With the election nearing, Democrats are becoming increasingly worried about Harris’s persistent struggle to gain support from men.
One Democratic strategist expressed concern about the problem with male voters, particularly Black and Hispanic men, highlighting the need for the party to address this issue even if they win the election.
Some attribute Trump’s support among men to misogyny, suggesting that some male voters are hesitant to support a woman for the highest office.
Strategists also point out the importance of addressing other issues, such as job creation and police brutality, to appeal to Black men in particular, who were a crucial part of Obama’s coalition in 2008.
Despite efforts to appeal to male voters, including interviews with prominent figures and campaign events targeting specific demographics, Harris continues to face challenges in gaining support from men.
The campaign is intensifying its efforts on various platforms, including social media and television ads, to reach a wider audience and secure crucial votes for victory.
