We want to see a clearer understanding of what handball is, what the expectations are, what we can and can’t do. We’re trying to move towards that so people will have a better understanding and there will be more consistency in decision-making. We’re trying to make sure that things are clearer for everyone involved and that there’s more understanding of what we’re trying to achieve.
Will there be explanations in stadiums for VAR decisions…
Yes, that’s something that I’m really keen to look at. We’ve been speaking to the clubs about that, and we think it’s really important that the fans understand what’s happening on the field, what the officials are looking at, what decisions are being made and why. We think it will add to the matchday experience, make it more engaging for the fans, and give them a better understanding of why decisions are being made. We’re really keen on that and we’re looking at ways to make it happen for the new season.
Automated offsides…
That’s something that we’re looking into as well. We think it could be a real benefit to the game, to make sure that offsides are called correctly and quickly. It’s something that has been used in other competitions and we’re looking at how we could implement it in Scotland. We want to make sure that the game is fair and that decisions are accurate, so automated offsides could be a big step forward for us.
On getting Scottish officials back to the top of the game…
That’s definitely a goal for us. We want to see Scottish officials at the top of the game, at major tournaments, and being recognized for their quality and professionalism. We know that there’s work to be done, but we’re committed to improving standards, developing our officials, and making sure that they have the support and resources they need to succeed. I believe that with the right focus and dedication, we can get Scottish officials back to where they belong – at the top of the game.
Overall, I’m really excited about the changes we’re making in Scottish football refereeing. We’re looking to improve transparency, communication, and accountability, while also ensuring that our referees feel valued and respected. We want to continue to protect the image of the game and make sure that everyone involved, from players to fans, understands and respects the role of referees. I believe that these changes will benefit football in Scotland and help us continue to grow and develop as a sport.
